The medinas of Marrakech and Fes are UNESCO World Heritage sites and true labyrinths: Fes el-Bali alone counts thousands of alleys. A licensed guide turns the maze into a story — the Almoravid and Saadian dynasties, the tanneries, the madrasas, the craftsmen's quarters — and keeps fake guides and aggressive sellers away. In Morocco, only official guides holding a badge from the Ministry of Tourism may guide visitors inside the medinas.
Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered), carry small change, and agree any price before you accept a service. Shops do not open early: the souks come alive from about 10:00. Read our Marrakech travel tips for first-time visitors and the Jemaa el-Fna guide before your trip.
You do not need one, but a licensed guide on your first day saves hours of getting lost, explains what you are seeing and keeps unofficial guides away. After that, most visitors explore alone with confidence.
Yes. Tell us when booking and you will cook a vegetable tagine and vegetarian salads; the market visit is the same.
Most mosques in Morocco are closed to non-Muslims. The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca is the main exception, with guided visits several times a day except during Friday prayers.
The shared guided walking tour lasts about 3 hours. The private full-day city tour lasts around 7 hours including the Majorelle Garden and a lunch break.
