Why visit Essaouira

Laid out by a French engineer for Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah in the 18th century, Essaouira's grid-planned medina is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Skala ramparts and their bronze cannons, the busy fishing harbour and the long sandy beach give it a completely different rhythm from Marrakech. The trade winds that keep it cool in summer also make it a kitesurfing capital.

How to visit

Most visitors come on our Essaouira day trip from Marrakech, with a stop at an argan oil women's cooperative on the way. To stay longer, book a private transfer to Essaouira and spend a night or two in a riad by the ramparts.
